Providence Life Services offers a full range of services for families who need retirement living, assisted living, rehab, skilled nursing, and more. Park Place of St John, located in St John, Indiana is seeking a full-time Housekeeping Supervisor. 



The primary purpose of your job position is to assist in supervising the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and/or Director of Environment of Care, to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.

Summary of essential job functions

  • Supervise the day-to-day housekeeping functions of assigned personnel.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of housekeeping department personnel.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures to new housekeeping personnel.
  • Train assigned personnel in the proper techniques of mixing chemicals, cleaning disinfectants, and solutions; of cleaning methods; and the use of equipment, etc., as directed.
  • Assign personnel to specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
  • Ensure that personnel are performing assigned tasks in accordance with established housekeeping procedures.
  • Review and evaluate the work performance of assigned personnel.
  • Assist in conducting departmental performance evaluations as necessary and in accordance with the facility’s policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazard communications, TB management, and blood borne pathogens standard.
  • Counsel/discipline assigned personnel as requested or as necessary.
  • Ensure that housekeeping personnel follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure that all personnel wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects.
  • Ensure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner.
  • Coordinate routine/terminal isolation procedures with nursing service.
  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned work areas to assure that cleanliness and sanitary conditions are maintained.
  • Regularly conduct apartment cleanings as part of our commitment to independent living residents.
  • Clean furnishings, fixtures, room heating/cooling units, etc., resident rooms, recreational areas, windows, vacant rooms as assigned, etc., weekly as instructed.
  • Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, disinfecting, etc. (NOTE: ensure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.
  • Clean carpets, to include vacuuming.
  • Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet.


Skills necessary

  • High School diploma required.
  • 1 yr. supervisory experience required.
  • Must be familiar with care of various types of floors, with cleaning materials, etc., and with cleaning and general housekeeping methods and equipment.
